FO: Baret

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

Earlier this week there was snow in this part of the Netherlands. When I went out for some shopping, I got a terrible headache. Knitting a hat was still a project in my queue. In a hurry I knitted a three cornered baret, a design of Elizabeth Zimmerman (Knitter’s Almanac – june).

Sometimes patterns are not that interesting. A good choice of yarn can make it more attrative. Likewise with this pattern.  Breiboek showed this baret at the “Hoedenparade” of the Landelijke spindag earlier this year, made of handspun black and red yarn. Thanks José for your inspiration!

I used a handspun yarn which I made of a bit of BFL dyed by Storm in the Attic and some merino dyed with Campeche wood. Knitted with US 2½ / 3.0 mm I had a lot of stitches on the needles (about 250 I guess at the widest part of the hat). Simple stockinette, with increases/decreases every other row made this hat quick and simple to make. The color variation in the yarn was just enough not to get bored ;-)

More snow is expected this weekend.

Wat een grappige muts! Ik heb nog niet verder gelezen in mijn Knitteras almanac, anders was ik hem al tegengekomen. Nu kende ik hem dus nog niet. Het garen doet het geweldig!
