SKA DYO

Sock Knitters Anonymous, sockdown! june – DYO = design your own.
Started on June 3, completed June 12 2009
I loved designing and knitting these socks. My challenge was designing a pair of toe-up socks. Fun and interesting for me to knit – simple stylish to look at. Pattern must be suitable for men and women, to work as well with a dark blue, grey and other “dull” colored yarns as well as lovely hand dyed yarns. Lot’s of ribbing to get a snug fit, a bit of twisted stitches, ‘cause I love them.
Although I designed a sock pattern for man, I first knitted them for my own feet, to check the fit of the pattern. I used my hand dyed sock blank, as mentioned in the previous post. I knitted them two at at time, toe up and experienced the pattern as easy to memorize and addictive to knit. Pattern will be available the mid of august!

SKA-DYO again, in nearly solid dark blue :-)
Currently I am writing down the pattern, translating it in English and test knitting the pattern in a larger size. The name of the pattern will be a secret until the person the socks will be named after has got his socks. A special gift. Love it!

Currently it is summer, about 25 degrees Celsius, these are the only socks I would like to wear. Funny little flip-flop sockies, with a good fit. A quick knitting project using leftover yarn, using only 15 grams of sockyarn. Knitted a tiny sock blank of the leftover “Akelei” yarn, redyed it in a gradient purple to blue.

I find it hard to spin enough yarn for a cardigan and after the spinning is done, knitting it. A friend of mine has a good solution; spin a bit of yarn, knit it up, spin some more. I was curious to experience if this method works for me too. So it became my project for summer 2009. Cause I didn’t know how long the cardigan could be, with running out of yarn, I decided to knit the cardi top-down with raglan sleeves. This is also a new method.
I started this project on June 10. Both methods work for me! I love it, spinning, knitting, trying the cardigan to see how it fits. The back and front are almost done, currently spinning yarn for the sleeves. The quickest handspun and handknitted cardi, working it is so much fun …. Will it be ready on time for my vacation?

Prachtige sokken!
