Fearless knitting two socks on one circular; the first time.
I have to try it once more to decide if I like this method or not!

+ two socks are ready at the same time
+ no problem of measuring of counting row to find out they are even
+ this method is a bit slower to work; good to settle down.
- two skein of yarn get tangled up, need to be unwinded every now and then
- 2-on-1 is not that handy knitting in the train
- a different emotional value; as impatiens as I am it seems to take ages to finish a cuff, a heel, a foot etc.

Yesterday I finished the the January Mystery Sock of the Goddess Knits. I started it with some hand dyed yarn and frogged it after knitting the cuff. The result was horrible. The second attempt worked out fine, although it seems to take ages, I made this pair in 9 days. That’s a record, considering it did more then knitting these 9 days!

An easy to knit cuff-down pattern with a bit of lace. I have worked the sock over 60 stitches, as recommended. The pattern is slightly elastic, this gives the sock a nice snug fit, without a tight feeling. I hope this nice fitting won’t get baggy while wearing them.

I just found out I missed one clue “Knit across 15 sts” before starting the heel. So the side panel of the sock became the central panel in my pair. Wel, who cares! I like them :-)

Dit weekend twee keer naar de Handwerkbeurs, ik heb er erg veel zin in!
Vrijdag breien in het breicafé van de SnB, zondag ga ik met een vriendin nog een keertje voor de gezelligheid.
Voorpret; wat neem ik mee om te showen en te breien. Op de verschillende logs en forums te lezen wie ik allemaal kan tegenkomen…. Shoppen? Ik hou het binnen de perken. Tijdens de Stitch en Bitchdag heb ik mezelf behoorlijk verwend. Die stash heb ik nog niet verwerkt. Op de een of andere manier wil ik iets maken dan wat bij mijn stash past. Hebben jullie dat nu ook?

Ik mag van mijzelf uitkijken naar stash voor twee projecten uit Knitting Nature van Norah Gaughan. Een katoentje voor de zomerse Basalt tank en een mooi gevarierd garen om de Mosaic Shrug te maken. Qua kleuren val ik voor de shrug helemaal op de Noro, maar ja, dat spul kriebelt mij zo, daar begin ik niet aan.

Het lijkt me verstandig om in het breicafé iets simpels op de naalden te hebben. Voor de show neem ik mijn huidige projecten mee, of ik er iets op de dag aan brei betwijfel ik zo. Ik weet wel hoe het gaat met veel afleiding; één toer breien, één toer terugsteken ;-)

In oktober 2006 ben ik, na een basiscursus natuurfotografie, overgestapt op een digitale spiegelreflex camera. Wat is dat ongelofelijk wennen geweest, alsof ik opnieuw moet leren fotograferen om datgene wat ik zie ook op de foto te krijgen. Lastig hoor, met zoveel instellingen, na een lange tijd met een hybride te hebben gewerkt. Een jaar lang fotograferen in een haat-liefde verhouding met mijn camera.

Stapje voor stapje ga ik iedere week iets vooruit. Van de automatische instellingen naar het manuele instellen met alle technische toeters en bellen. Ik leef me nu voornamelijk uit op het fotograferen van mijn garens, spin- en breiwerk; Yarnography. Op Ravelry heb ik nu ook een paar groepen ontdekt die mijn passie doen op leven. Een leuke is Yarnographers; met wekelijkse opdrachten. Als ik zie wat daar voorbij komt, kan ik nog heel wat leren! Heerlijk, die uitdagingen ;-)

Mystery knitalong of the Dutch “Spingroep”, made of handspun darkgrey Ouessant en natural Shetland yarn

Ook mijn lammetje is klaar! Lam was een knitalong van de Spingroep. In vijf of zes weken kregen we telkens een klein stukje om te breien. Pas bij de laatste aanwijzing werd duidelijk wat we aan het maken waren. Op de diverse logs werd er al heel wat af gespeculeerd ;-)

Lam voelt zich al helemaal thuis in mijn kamer, het liefst zit ze op het toetsenbord. Ook de kaardemolen is een fijn plekje. Lam had het wel een beetje koud, ze heeft alvast een sjaal gekregen. Binnenkort krijgt ze nog een truitje aan. Ik heb haar gemaakt van donkergrijze Ouessant en witte/naturel Shetlander. Het sjaaltje is zelfgeverfde enkeldraads merino, wat spontaan een wokkelsjaaltje vormde.

Earlier I had to frog her. Yesterday I started La Digitessa all over again. It is the most complicated sock I ever tried. She is demanding, I was warned before I started, still I misunderstood the chart. Yarnissima gave me a good explanation on how to read them.

I seems to work out a lot better now. This is definitly not a pair of socks I will knit in a week or two. It takes concentration and even my reading glasses and good light to knit :-) The fine yarn, beautiful color and design make every effort worthwile.

In the meantime I am also working on other projects;

• KIP in the train or waiting room the Coriolis socks for my nephew.
• Fearless knitting two socks on one circ …
• Hollyhock my Portia is all knitted, only have to sew the parts together. The sewing is my least favorite thing to do, with some discipline it will be ready to wear this weekend.

Knitting is real therapy for my. I even read it in a book this week as a good practice for anxious and nervous kids. Just like working in the garden en working with clay; other likes I love to do. Relaxing and comforting it is a good way to get the tension out of my body, to balance and get in touch with my body. Lots of tension, lots of knitting to do … I love this therapy for anxiety :-)
