Er is weer een week voorbij gevlogen…
Een onrustig weekje moet ik zeggen. De woningstichting is onderhoud aan ons huis aan het doen. De ramen worden vervangen, we hebben nu dubbelglas, de kozijnen en deuren worden geschilderd. Het is de moeite waard, het staat er weer strak bij in plaats van de bladders die er aan hingen. Al die aktiviteiten rond het huis gaan wel ten koste van mijn (nacht)rust. Schuurmachines en schallende radio’s vanaf half 8 in de ochtend. Als “langslaper” ben ik er niet zo blij mee. Nou ja, nog een weekje, dan zullen ze wel klaar zijn.

Ik merk dat deze druktes zijn weerslag hebben om mijn conditie en concentratie. Vermoeidheid zorgen voor ongelukjes… dingen laten vallen, mezelf stoten, blauwe plekken tot daaraantoe. Maandag kwam ik met mijn vingers klem in een brievenbus toen ik wat uitnodigingen voor de SP ging bezorgen. Nét even niet alert klapte zo’n strak afgestelde klep op mijn linkerhand. Dat was pijnlijk en zeer bloederig …. ik ging bijna tegen de vlakte. Typen en breien en andere dagelijkse dingen gaan onhandig, ik ben me nu heel bewust waar ik mijn linkerhand voor gebruik. De pijn wordt wat minder, ik hoop dat de wond aan mijn middelvinger zich ook snel hersteld ;-)

De creatieve uitspattingen staan zodoende even op een laag pitje. Boeken lezen of een filmpje kijken is ook wel lekker. Eerder deze week had ik een paar strengen wol gesponnen, terwijl ik genoot van de warmte in het zonnetje.

Ik kwam bij het opruimen van mijn wolkamer een restantje Evilla preyarn tegen. Het kleurverloop vind ik zo mooi, ook het restje van zo’n 30 gram wilde ik graag verwerken. Ik heb het gesponnen en vervolgens getwijned met een dun draadje Blue Faced Leicester. Elli is een eigentijdse variant op de Noorse sokkenwol geworden, breiend op naalden 2,75 word het een lekker sokje.

Nuala is een supergrof garen om te breien met naalden 8 of hoger. Ik heb Veluws Heideschaap in de pan geverfd met blauw en bordeaux, wat een levendig resultaat van allerlei tinten roze, paars en diep paarsblauw opleverde. Na het verven heb ik de lokken licht gekaard met de kaardemolen om de kleuren niet te veel te mengen. Helaas leek het er al spinnende op, dat ik niet voldoende zou hebben om een vervilt hoedje mee te maken. De resterende bats heb ik gemengd met zwarte Ouessant, gekaard en gesponnen. Twee draadjes getwijnd, is het garen iets donker geworden.

V & E are expecting their first child in december.
So … Jan & I will be grandparents !!!.  We are so proud and really looking forward to the newborn.
This money-box is a gift to tease us, from my parents when they heard of the good news. Well, we like the resemblance of the figure ;-). Grandfather reading a book, grandmother knitting green socks in her purple dress with a cat on her lap.

As some grannies do …
I am knitting lot’s of baby-stuff for our first grandchild; blankets, pants, booties, hats, socks and so on! I love working on this small projects this much, I almost forget that I can also knit for her/him when she or he is a bit older. We don’t know yet if it will be a boy or a girl. During the 20th week scan, the baby was not in the right position to show. The most important thing; mother and child are very well and healthy.

Wipswrestling … two of my projects are finished.
The third one, the most challenging is frogged. Again! I give up! After completing the heel I noticed La Digitesse didn’t fit my feet. I made so many mistakes I was no longer content with it. I decided to frog again. Maybe I’ll start a third attempt in a few weeks or maybe next year – I am a bit frustrated right now …..

There is just one remedy…
Working some easy projects like a cot blanket, a tiny sweater for a newborn and off course cast-on a new sock! Looking in my stash Storm op Zolder‘s Lentefee with her lovely colors made my heart jump of joy. After making a swatch I decided to use it for Grumperina’s Jaywalkers. A tricky choice with my frustration-level still high.

A year ago I tried this “classic” pattern twice; once it worked out to large with 2.5 mm needles, once it was to small with 2.0 mm needles. Now, the third attempt; knitting with 2.25 mm needles and 76 stitches cast-on seems to work! I really love the way the colors make tiny stripes.

The next days I would be knitting much. There is a blanket I have to sew together for the Peace Project. The 35 squares are waiting more then a month. I would like to finish it before Tuesday, so I can take it to the Stitch’nBitch evening in Zutphen.

My buddy of the Magic Ball swap send me in the parcel a hand dyed yarn in a mauve-taupe-chestnut like color. The yarn inspired my to design this pattern with twisted stitches, working toe-up. The yarn hasn’t much twist set in it, so the twisted stitches appear a bit diffuse.

These socks have a striking twisted pattern of leaves enclosing a diamond in a decorative border of eye’s on top of the feet. The back of the leg is knitted in a ktbl/purl rib with three subtle 2-stitch cables.

I loved knitting this pair of socks some much, I decided to share the pattern with you.

Requirements:
- 1 Addi 80 cm circular or 5 dpn, 2.5 mm
- a skein of nice (hand dyed) yarn in semi-solid colors, approx. 100 gr/420 meters.
- stitch markers, rowcounter, cableneedle

Size:
- Woman US: 8 – 9, EU 38/40. The size can easily be adjusted to fit larger or smaller feet.

Gauge:
- 32 sts, 40 rws per 10 cm in stockinette

Deze van de teen naar boord gebreide sok met kruisende steken is mijn tweede sokontwerp. Het is wél het eerste wat ik publiceer via het internet. Het breien en ontwerpen van deze sok was een feest.

De sok heeft een opvallend patroon, wat mij doet denken aan bloemblaadjes die een diamant omvatten, gebreid op een averechte achtergrond. Het middendeel wordt omsloten door een decoratieve rand van oogjes. De achterkant van het been is gebreid in een boordsteek van verdraaid recht/averecht met drie subtiele kabeltjes over twee steken.

Nostepinne and Niddy-noddy

A niddy-noddy is a tool I use for making skeins from yarn. This one is portable, for me it works just as handy as a skeiner. A nostepinne is a tool I use for making center-pull balls of yarn. Most of the time I use it for winding scraps or very bulky handspun yarn. Other weight I prefer my ball winder ;-)

Both tools are handmade of wood by Betty and her husband.
