My buddy of the Magic Ball swap send me in the parcel a hand dyed yarn in a mauve-taupe-chestnut like color. The yarn inspired my to design this pattern with twisted stitches, working toe-up. The yarn hasn’t much twist set in it, so the twisted stitches appear a bit diffuse.

These socks have a striking twisted pattern of leaves enclosing a diamond in a decorative border of eye’s on top of the feet. The back of the leg is knitted in a ktbl/purl rib with three subtle 2-stitch cables.

I loved knitting this pair of socks some much, I decided to share the pattern with you.

Requirements:
- 1 Addi 80 cm circular or 5 dpn, 2.5 mm
- a skein of nice (hand dyed) yarn in semi-solid colors, approx. 100 gr/420 meters.
- stitch markers, rowcounter, cableneedle

Size:
- Woman US: 8 – 9, EU 38/40. The size can easily be adjusted to fit larger or smaller feet.

Gauge:
- 32 sts, 40 rws per 10 cm in stockinette

Deze van de teen naar boord gebreide sok met kruisende steken is mijn tweede sokontwerp. Het is wél het eerste wat ik publiceer via het internet. Het breien en ontwerpen van deze sok was een feest.

De sok heeft een opvallend patroon, wat mij doet denken aan bloemblaadjes die een diamant omvatten, gebreid op een averechte achtergrond. Het middendeel wordt omsloten door een decoratieve rand van oogjes. De achterkant van het been is gebreid in een boordsteek van verdraaid recht/averecht met drie subtiele kabeltjes over twee steken.

Finished about three days ago. Maeve makes me so happy!
Ze is al weer drie dagen klaar; Maeve! Ik ben er heel blij mee!

Currently I am working to translate the pattern, my own design, in English, making a chart, taking some nice pic’s. Lot’s of work before the pattern can ben published. Although… I think I am a perfectionist again ;-)

Momenteel ben ik volop bezig om het patroon netjes uit te werken, vertalen in het Engels, een teltekening maken, nog wat mooie foto’s voor de details. Wat een werk zeg als je een patroon graag wilt publiceren – al hoewel… het zal ook wel met mijn eigen neiging tot perfectie te maken hebben ;-)

The insideout-sock was a quick and easy knit, due knitting every 6 rounds an even row it was not boring.  Fun to turn the socks inside out while knitting to see the pattern grow.

De binnenstebuitensok van de Yahoogroup Sokken_breien was een leuke doorbreier. Het is een ontwerp van Annemiek Bosma. Eenvoudig, echterniet saai door af en toe het ribbeltje (knoopje) voor de binnenzijde van de sok. Het was zo leuk om telkens de sok binnenste buiten te keren om het patroontje aan de binnenkant te zien groeien. Ja, het is de binnenzijde geworden, hubbie spreekt dat toch het meest aan.

Monkey socks made from Blue Faced Leicester sockyarn, handdyed myself in the colors of blackberry in cream.

Ik heb wederom een heerlijk paar sokken aan mijn collectie toegevoegd. Het zijn de welbekende Monkey van Cookie A. Het sokkengaren is de Bluefaced Leicester van Storm op Zolder, wat ik zelf geverfd heb. Het doet met denken aan de kleur van bosbessen in slagroom. Jummie! De eerste keer dat ik met dit garen heb gebreid, het voelt heerlijk zacht om te breien en om te dragen. Ik ben ook erg tevreden over het patroon van de Monkey, het heeft voldoende rek om aan te sluiten, zonder te strak te gaan zitten of te gaan slobberen.

Fearless knitting two socks on one circular; the first time.
I have to try it once more to decide if I like this method or not!

+ two socks are ready at the same time
+ no problem of measuring of counting row to find out they are even
+ this method is a bit slower to work; good to settle down.
- two skein of yarn get tangled up, need to be unwinded every now and then
- 2-on-1 is not that handy knitting in the train
- a different emotional value; as impatiens as I am it seems to take ages to finish a cuff, a heel, a foot etc.

Yesterday I finished the the January Mystery Sock of the Goddess Knits. I started it with some hand dyed yarn and frogged it after knitting the cuff. The result was horrible. The second attempt worked out fine, although it seems to take ages, I made this pair in 9 days. That’s a record, considering it did more then knitting these 9 days!

An easy to knit cuff-down pattern with a bit of lace. I have worked the sock over 60 stitches, as recommended. The pattern is slightly elastic, this gives the sock a nice snug fit, without a tight feeling. I hope this nice fitting won’t get baggy while wearing them.

I just found out I missed one clue “Knit across 15 sts” before starting the heel. So the side panel of the sock became the central panel in my pair. Wel, who cares! I like them :-)
